Thank you for expressing an interest in being a volunteer for Caledonia Little League (CBSL).
CBSL can only be as successful as the strength of its parent/volunteer support. We recognize that our coaches, assistants and other volunteers make a significant contribution of time and effort to enhance the experience of playing Little League Baseball & Softball. It is the goal of CBSL to provide the best coaching instruction to our participants while maintaining a positive team environment.
All prospective volunteers must meet the following requirements to be considered for a position within the League:
3. Complete a background check - you will receive an email from JD Palatine shortly after completion of your volunteer form*
4. Attend any required league training/coaches meeting.
5. (Optional/Recommended) Become USA Baseball Certified - Learn More
* All candidates are required to undergo a background check by Little League International. CBSL uses Little League recommended JD Palatine as our background check provider. To learn more go here
Being a baseball/softball coach is a ton fun and can be very rewarding. It can also seem overwhelming at times especially as a new volunteer who may not have ever played the game. There are so many skills to cover during practice (especially with the older age divisions)- infield, outfield, pitching, batting, base running, etc.- it’s hard to know where to start and how to prepare to serve your players well and advance their “game”.
In the past, CBSL has offered coaches “clinics” which attempt to provide snapshots into some of the fundamentals mentioned above. This year we are piloting a free, online “certification” program offered through USA Baseball. While this program gives a nice overview of all aspects of the game, it most importantly spotlights a coaching/league philosophy that puts the player (our kids) first. We are excited about how this program could shape the culture of our league and quality of play in years to come.
Some details as you consider becoming a “certified” CBSL coach.
Every coach should approach this program with their age/division level in mind. Included in the program is insight from MLB players and coaches. Yes, this instruction may seem far above the level of Teeball but we need to know what skills and knowledge we are ultimately striving for and then present this in age specific ways.
The training is self paced and involves mostly video content; anyone can do it! Our guess is that the average time commitment would be 6-8 hours (total).
The program is free! All you need to do is setup a profile with USA Baseball. Here you can track your progress as you complete the A, B and C levels of certification. Note: to be considered “certified”, you will need 100% completion of levels A and B and 83.33% of level C. You do not need to attend a USA Baseball Coaches Clinic (unless you want to!).
As a companion to this program, USA Baseball also offers the Mobile Coach App which we strongly recommend to all coaches. This app offers a huge library of drills, skill instruction and practice plans to equip you and your players. It is a "must have" as a baseball coach and a tremendous resource to add to your coaching toolbox!

Little League Rules
Each year, Little League® provides its constituent leagues with current Little League rules, regulations, and policies that outline and define the operation of the program. It is important for all Little League volunteers and parents to be familiar with the most up-to-date version of Little League’s Official Regulations, Playing Rules, and Operating Policies.
The 2023 CBSL Annual Coaches meeting will be held on March 15 at 7:00 PM at the Kraft Meadows Intermediate School Cafeteria.
Please note that this meeting is mandatory for all coaches as it will cover important information pertaining to the upcoming season. If you are unable to make it, please send a family member or another person to attend in your place.
